The carefree spirit of the 70's hippies evolved to the "Ravers' subculture in the late 1980's- early £1990's. Ibiza was discovered by travellers and soon became a hit with the new subculture. Drugs such as Acid and Ecstasy became staple for youngster, fuelling crazy rave parties.
Soon, rave houses and clubs opened in the UK. The emerging "Acid House" culture had a reality beyond holiday-fuelled exuberance. Illegal warehouse raves also became a big thing as it was easier to consume illegal substances.
Music
Rave music was generated from The new beat in the 80's. It evolved to become more techno and industrial. Genre's that Ravers would listen to are house, techno, acid techno, dubstep, drum and bass, hardcore techno etc. Anything that sounded electronic and you can you dance to endlessly whilst under the influence of drugs.
Fashion
The 70's hippies style has a massive influence in raver's fashion. The smiley face icon became a logo for ravers. Along with tie dye t-shirts, neon colours and loose sportswear clothing.
